Khaleda’s iftar party with Jamaat-e-Islami, munajat for war criminals Nizami, Ghulam Azam
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia attended an Iftar party hosted by its key allay Jamaat-e-Islami at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city on Tuesday.
A ‘munajat’ or special prayer was offered at the Iftar party praying for the release of the leaders of the opposition, particularly the top leaders of Jamaat, arrested for their alleged involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
Khaleda, also Leader of the Opposition in parliament, reached the Iftar party five minutes behind the scheduled Iftar time due to gridlock on her way. Although munajat is usually offered before the Iftar, it was offered after the BNP chief reached the venue.
Acting Jamaat chief A K M Nazir Ahmed at a function before the Iftar said their party chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mujaheed, assistant secretaries general Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Molla were detained in ‘false cases’.
“Not only this, Prof Ghulam Azam (former Jamaat chief) has also been detained in false case,” he claimed.
LDP Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, BNP Standing Committee members Dr RA Gani, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, leaders of Jagpa, NPP, Muslim League, Labour Party and other opposition parties and civil society members attended the Iftar party.
