Curtail Janmashtami celebrations, it’s Ramadan!

Home Minister Shahara Khatun on Monday urged members belonging to the minority Hindu community to conclude programmes marking their religious event Janmashtami by 5pm.

Janmashtami, the birthday of Shri Krishna, will be observed on Aug 9. People belonging to Hindu religion bring out processions participated by people of all walks of life to celebrate the day when Lord Krishna is believed to have born.

Shahara told journalists, the request to complete all programmes by 5pm was being made as Muslims were also observing their month of fasting, Ramadan.

She made the call on the minority community people from a meeting she had with police and leaders of Hindu community at her Secretariat office.

She said the law-enforcers had been ordered to ensure security on the day.
