Bangladesh ahead of India in RMG export

Bangladesh is witnessing a significant progress in terms of RMG (Readymade Garments) export to different countries compared to India and Pakistan during the last couple of years.

This progress has been achieved following government’s successes in expanding export markets of its ready made garments to the USA, South Korea, Japan, South Africa, China and 27 countries under the European Union (EU).

Commerce Minister Golam Mohammad Quader said this while replying to a question of treasury bench member Begum Sanjida Khanam in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

Giving statistics, the minister informed the House that Bangladesh earned 19559.08 million US dollars by exporting RMG in those countries in 2011. Compared to this, he said, India earned 10252.59 million US Dollars and Pakistan 3746.30 Million Dollars during the period.

Besides, the commerce minister informed the House that Bangladesh had witnessed 19089.73 million US Dollars export income against 13736.76 and 4078.81 million US Dollars export earnings achieved by India and Pakistan in 2011-12 fiscal respectively.

The statistics showed that Bangladesh’s export income is 139 percent higher than India and 468 percent than Pakistan, the minister added.
